Summary

When five-year-old Evie O'Shea married her next-door neighbor in the wedding of the century, she had no idea she was swearing an oath to love the man who would grow into the bane of her existence until the end of time。 Or that in ten years time, she'd start a long and winding journey to an eventual endometriosis diagnosis。

Now, aged twenty-six, Evie O'Shea lives in Paris, balancing precariously close to her Charlotte Lucas birthday。 A burden to her parents, with no prospects and no money, Evie's humdrum life needs a shake-up。

Enter Liam Kelly, the man Evie married at the age of five and promptly divorced at seven when he had the audacity to throw a muddy football at her while she was reading Eloise in Paris。 Clad in a Henley and equipped with toned forearms and eye crinkles that rival Gene Kelly himself, Evie is determined to keep her ultimate temptation at a distance while she flails wildly navigating life, love, and endometriosis on the banks of the Seine。

But when a family announcement shakes up Evie's world weeks before her brother's wedding, Evie seeks Liam's help to get through the wedding with some semblance of sanity intact。

Her request? Fake date。

Making a deal with the Devil always comes with a cost, though, and when Liam's conditions which include elaborate backstories and practice dates, reignite passions her disease smothered long ago, Evie has to learn to fight for her dreams and break free from her life measured in ibuprofen pills and heating pad settings。 Or else risk being alive but never truly living。

this book was everything 18 year old me needed。 I loved Evie and I loved Liam。 Evie's insecurities were shown in an amazing way that doesn't feel heavy or forced but simply human and the way Liam remained by her side? It was everything。 A love letter to everything I loved when I was younger with a side of beautiful reminder how our illnesses don't define us。 this book was everything 18 year old me needed。 I loved Evie and I loved Liam。 Evie's insecurities were shown in an amazing way that doesn't feel heavy or forced but simply human and the way Liam remained by her side? This book was an absolute gem。 I cant help but be very happy with the Paris setting, the pastries, the mention of her disease plus the constant reminder that it is okay。 I was too happy after finishing the book, that I just could not review right away。 Overall, it was entertaning, witty, well-written and binge-worthy。This was a worth it read。 Thank you netgalley for letting me read this even before its launch date。Great job, Torie Jean。 You caught my heart。Two-thumbs up indeed!

Evie is trying to make a life for herself in Paris, trying to stay away from her over bearing mother who seems to pity her because of her endometriosis。 She ends up re connecting with her childhood crush, Liam, but she is still annoyed that he seemed to have played with her feelings when they were younger。 This book was fluffy but also tackled some serious issues, such as endo and mother daughter tensions。 It wasn’t too dramatic, which I really appreciated。 Recommend for a rainy day, snuggled up Evie is trying to make a life for herself in Paris, trying to stay away from her over bearing mother who seems to pity her because of her endometriosis。 She ends up re connecting with her childhood crush, Liam, but she is still annoyed that he seemed to have played with her feelings when they were younger。 This book was fluffy but also tackled some serious issues, such as endo and mother daughter tensions。 It wasn’t too dramatic, which I really appreciated。 Recommend for a rainy day, snuggled up with a warm mug of tea。 。。。more

So much endo ! Just so much。 And I get it, I do, endo is a lot。 But sometimes it feels like the book is more about endo awareness than the actual story。 Liam is at times too good to be true not gonna lie。 The way Evie is completely oblivious and stuck in the enemies part of the story for entirely too long does get annoying pretty quick because girl-thinks-boy-hates-her-but-he's-bad-at-expressing himself is not a particularly groundbreaking formula。 I mean it's one of my favourite formulas, but i So much endo ! Ahh, I loved this so much! Such a sweet story。 The endometriosis representation felt especially well-written。 Evie's endometriosis is always present, but it's not the focal point of the story or Evie's sole character trait。I'll definitely be reading more stories by Torie Jean。 I loved the writing- it pulled me in immediately and I read the entire thing in less than a day。 I loved Evie's honest and humorous inner monologue。The romance was very adorable too。 Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC! Finding Gene Kelly is a charming romance novel set in Paris, full of humour, sweetness, and great representation。 When I heard that there was a romance novel featuring endometriosis representation coming out, I JUMPED at the chance to read it。 As someone who suffers from this disease myself, I was so incredibly grateful for the way it was handled and for how prominent it was in the story。 The unrelenting pain, mobility aids, damaged relationships, self-esteem issues, etc, were presented so well Finding Gene Kelly is a charming romance novel set in Paris, full of humour, sweetness, and great representation。 When I heard that there was a romance novel featuring endometriosis representation coming out, I JUMPED at the chance to read it。 As someone who suffers from this disease myself, I was so incredibly grateful for the way it was handled and for how prominent it was in the story。 The unrelenting pain, mobility aids, damaged relationships, self-esteem issues, etc, were presented so well that I had to put the book down a few times because I was overcome with emotion。 Evie's journey was so relatable to my own。 The only thing I wish we'd seen more of in terms of endometriosis was to do with Evie's process of first getting diagnosed - other than that though, some of the best chronic illness representation I have ever read。As for the romance itself, it had fake dating, hurt/comfort, and childhood-friends-to-(kind of) rivals-to-lovers。 There were cheesy jokes and puns and I loved the dynamic between the main characters。 Were there clichés? Yes。 Did that make me like it even more? Yes。 I do wish there had been a few more rounds of edits - I did notice some mistakes, but overall, it was a solidly good debut novel!Overall, if you're looking for a fun romance that also deals with the reality of endometriosis (not so fun, in my experience), definitely give this one a read!Thank you to the author and to Netgalley for providing me with an E-ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

I was sucked in to this book right away because I really liked Evie and felt that she was relatable。 Once Liam was in the picture, Evie drove me nuts with her cluelessness and the pining from both of them was absolute torture。 But I enjoyed it。 I really liked watching their relationship grow。 There were times during the first half of the book that I felt like things were taking too long, but that could be due to the fact that I was desperate for them to get together。 I also felt like I wanted mo I was sucked in to this book right away because I really liked Evie and felt that she was relatable。 Once Liam was in the picture, Evie drove me nuts with her cluelessness and the pining from both of them was absolute torture。 But I enjoyed it。 I really liked watching their relationship grow。 There were times during the first half of the book that I felt like things were taking too long, but that could be due to the fact that I was desperate for them to get together。 I also felt like I wanted more from the second half。 So the pacing was a little bit off for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed the ride。 I really relate to Evie's struggle with believing that Liam loves her as she is and accepts all the things she considers a burden。 I thought that was really well done。 The romance was beautiful and even though it was a closed door book, I felt that it was done in a way that was perfect for the story。 Overall, I really loved this book and appreciated the endo representation。 Well done! 。。。more

amazing As someone who also has a debilitating chronic illness and no love life this book resonated with me soo much。 Every thought Evie had, I have had。 I’ve seen romances with characters with disabilities but not like invisible chronic illnesses where every day you feel different and will never end。 This book meant a lot to me and I thank the author for creating something that portrays the life with a chronic illness so well

I originally requested this book because I love Gene Kelly and old musicals, but I found a beautiful book about letting go of the past and accepting that some things are out of your control。 The representation in this book is so needed and done with such care, but it still maintained a quirky and charming tone that made me fall in love Evie’s version of Paris。The characters are both cinnamon rolls and I loved seeing their relationship grow。 The flashbacks of their childhood together worked reall I originally requested this book because I love Gene Kelly and old musicals, but I found a beautiful book about letting go of the past and accepting that some things are out of your control。 The representation in this book is so needed and done with such care, but it still maintained a quirky and charming tone that made me fall in love Evie’s version of Paris。The characters are both cinnamon rolls and I loved seeing their relationship grow。 The flashbacks of their childhood together worked really well at providing context and backstory to their miscommunications。 Overall, the vibes of this book are immaculate and I look forward to more works from Torie Jean。 Thank you to NetGalley and Torie Jean for an e-arc of Finding Gene Kelly in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Thanks to Sunset and Camden Creative, Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book。 I am leaving this review voluntarily。This book is what I love about contemporary romance these days - I read stories that, 10 years ago, just didn't exist。 Stories about people with Endo, with Chronic Fatigue, with diverse characters who have complex histories and rich personal lives - that you can learn from。 I loved the fact that we only hear Evie's voice throughout, but we know Liam adores her from the beg Thanks to Sunset and Camden Creative, Netgalley and the author for an ARC of this book。 I am leaving this review voluntarily。This book is what I love about contemporary romance these days - I read stories that, 10 years ago, just didn't exist。 Stories about people with Endo, with Chronic Fatigue, with diverse characters who have complex histories and rich personal lives - that you can learn from。 I loved the fact that we only hear Evie's voice throughout, but we know Liam adores her from the beginning。 I loved that Evie and Liam redefine what we physical expressions of love。 I love the puns - screwball that I am。This isn't an easy read - there's a lot of descriptions of pain and chronic illness, but I think it's important to read through this so we as an audience can understand the depth of what people with Endo can face, and also to understand the personal challenges that Evie faces, so we can truly have compassion for people suffering from this disease。But it's also a beautiful love story, and a story about family, friends, and loving yourself most of all。 。。。more

3。25 starsSo this was a decent contemporary romance read, but I didn’t always jive with the writing style。 It was bit eclectic at times, and I found the pacing especially finicky。It’s got some great tropes combined in it: boy next door and childhood friends to enemies to lovers to start, not mention a lead character with endometriosis and a large portion of the novel focuses on her health issues and the chronic pain she lives with。I liked the characters but didn’t think there was a whole lot of 3。25 starsSo this was a decent contemporary romance read, but I didn’t always jive with the writing style。 It was bit eclectic at times, and I found the pacing especially finicky。It’s got some great tropes combined in it: boy next door and childhood friends to enemies to lovers to start, not mention a lead character with endometriosis and a large portion of the novel focuses on her health issues and the chronic pain she lives with。I liked the characters but didn’t think there was a whole lot of character growth that felt natural and believable - it wasn’t something that I felt was developed throughout the story and by the end I thought a lot of the ways that many of the subplots were tied neatly didn’t come from anything that was built throughout the story。I will say that the friendships involved were sweet, and while not incredibly nuanced as they were not the focus, they felt healthy and genuine。 The family dynamics on the other hand were not as developed as they should have been considering the fact that a lot of our main character, Evie’s issues were so rooted in the contentious relationship she had with her mother, and the same thing went with the romantic interest, Liam and his relationship with his parents, specifically his father。Definitely happy that I picked it up though, and wouldn’t deter anyone from picking it up。 。。。more

This weekend is my pretty cover weekend clearly。 Another beautiful way to start a new favourite read。 Evie and Liam have known each other since they were five and while they would've probably hoped that their marriage would've lasted, turning seven was the beginning of the end of how close the two would be in the upcoming years。 With growing up comes a lot of changes and miscommunication and these two had a ton of that getting in the way of what could've been。Evie is 27 now, living in Paris, and This weekend is my pretty cover weekend clearly。 Another beautiful way to start a new favourite read。 Evie and Liam have known each other since they were five and while they would've probably hoped that their marriage would've lasted, turning seven was the beginning of the end of how close the two would be in the upcoming years。 With growing up comes a lot of changes and miscommunication and these two had a ton of that getting in the way of what could've been。Evie is 27 now, living in Paris, and the last person she ever thought she'd reunite with is the man that let her down so many times。 Liam has invaded her new safe space without her knowing and as much as she wants to cling to the past, there is something Liam can do that will help her future a little。 The two agree to fake date for her brother's wedding but。。。 we all know where that goes LOL。<3<3<3<3Ily。 Ilysm。 Wowie。 I was happy, I was sad, I loved it all。 Liam was so sweet and my heart went out to Evie because endo sounds horrendous and Torie did a really great job in portraying how much of a daily struggle it is。 There was no "it'll get better" moments, no making light of anything; Torie's portrayal felt true to the struggle。 I am, however, not someone who has to go through that kind of chronic pain so I could be wrong。 I just did not think anything was glorified at all。The romance was sweet and patient。 I liked watching the two figure out their footing。 It just came together so perfectly in the end。 I loved it。 。。。more

This one is hard。 I really loved parts of this book and I really did not enjoy parts of this book, which has left me unsure of how to actually rate it。 I will start by saying that it very clearly reads as a debut。 What I mean by this is that there are a lot of big tropes and microtropes and very obvious romance type beats/moments crammed together in a way that reads as if the author was just trying to fit everything that they have ever wanted to write into this one story。 I think that large part This one is hard。 I really loved parts of this book and I really did not enjoy parts of this book, which has left me unsure of how to actually rate it。 I will start by saying that it very clearly reads as a debut。 What I mean by this is that there are a lot of big tropes and microtropes and very obvious romance type beats/moments crammed together in a way that reads as if the author was just trying to fit everything that they have ever wanted to write into this one story。 I think that large parts of the plot, and even smaller moments could and should have been cut out to streamline what was happening and give it room to breathe because the basic bones of the story worked。 Amidst all of this, there are sections of writing and dialogue that are really excellent! The intimate scenes and the banter between Evie and Liam are great。 And, I'm not someone who has experience with endometriosis but I did learn a lot about it from this book (it is a major part of the plot and it is quite heavy so if you aren't prepared to read something like that then just be prepared)。 Overall, it's a book that is good for people who love extra tropey-ness from their romances and love a good misunderstood by the heroine cinnamon roll hero。 。。。more
